Ramadan Kareem!

Assalamu Alaykum Brothers and Sisters

A year has come and gone, and the blessed month of Ramadan is upon us once again. We have been awarded another Ramadan and have been given another chance to make our appeals to Allah- to worship Him, indulge in the recitation of the Quran, and experience the sweetness of communal nightly prayers. Our last several Ramadans have been muted of joy and community, and finally, after 3 long years, we come back together in order to stand foot to foot- shoulder to shoulder again by the will of Allah.

As you welcome this month, we make a humble request to you on behalf of ICNA Council for Social Justice. This year, we have asked you to contact your elected officials and make your appeals, asking them to institute policies that are just, and cater to our needs as Muslim Americans. Now, in the holy month of Ramadan, we must join our hands in prayer, and make an appeal to Allah for all those who have been forgotten. While our pursuit for justice remains, we know that Allah is the ultimate purveyor of Justice. During this month, our duas serve as the ultimate tool to use in our quest for equality and justice. As the well-known hadith goes: Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There are three whose du’aa’ is not rejected: a just ruler, the fasting person when he breaks his fast and the prayer of the oppressed person."

This Ramadan, which will pass as quickly as it has come, is a most welcome guest. Therefore, we look forward to seeing all of you at the masjid for iftar, for taraweeh, and during late night qiyam. We are anxiously awaiting long nights of worship, and the beautiful recitation of the Quran. We ask you to please remember the work we do here at ICNA CSJ in your duas.

Jazak Allahu Khayr
