The UN did it, Ask President Biden to do it too!

ACTION ALERT

Dear ICNA CSJ Supporter,

In 2021, the United Nations declared March 15th to be the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. This day is dedicated to ensuring that Muslims across the world are kept safe from harmful labels, as well as their impacts, especially those that occurred in the post-9/11 world.

From pop culture to government,  the representation of Islam and Muslims has become overwhelmingly negative. Muslims are associated with buzzwords like terrorism, are thought to be oppressive, and are seen as a threat to the modern world.

This negative representation of Islam and Muslims goes beyond just simply being stereotyped as a social group. Muslims, and those associated with Islam, are subject to discriminatory policies that pose a danger to their livelihoods, opportunities, freedom, and even their lives.

The UN’s recognition of this day aims to change this,  and to bring a positive association of Islam and Muslims that “calls for a global dialogue on the promotion of a culture of tolerance and peace, based on respect for human rights and for the diversity of religions and belief” (un.org)

We applaud the United Nations for taking the initiative to recognize and start a dialogue to help combat the negative impacts that global Islamophobia has had on Muslims across the world.

We ask that the United States, in the spirit of this acknowledgment by the United Nations, also take action to help combat Islamophobia worldwide by instituting policies that would help to measure the impacts and incidences of Islamophobia around the world.

This could be done by initiating a new position within the state department: special envoy to monitor Global Islamophobia.

Click the "Take Action" button below to send an email to the office of President Biden, asking him to use his power as president to introduce this position.

Monitoring the instances and effects of Global Islamophobia is the only way to truly combat this heinous discrimination against Muslims across the globe.

Walaikum Assalam,

Dr. Zahid Bukhari
Executive Director, ICNA CSJ
