The War on Drugs

The war on drugs, much like the war on terrorism, the Cold War, etc., is an ideological war that has had tangible ramifications in the realm of social justice in the US. Since 1971, the US has spent over a trillion dollars enforcing drug policy. The war on drugs was launched by President Nixon, and given greater legitimacy under the Reagan administration.

 

Black Resistance: Resources and Reading

As Black History Month comes to an end, we wanted to take this time to reflect on the theme of the month – Black Resistance. 

Black revolutionaries have fought for equality since before the founding of the USA as a nation-state. From enslaved individuals rebelling against slave owners to sit-ins, boycotts, and strikes to taking the knee during the national anthem, Black resistance has many forms.

2023 Black History Month Essay Contest
Winners Announced!

The New Jersey chapter of the Council for Social Justice, (CSJ NJ) today is pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 statewide Black History Month Essay Contest.

High school students were asked to write 600 words or less on one of the following topics:

  •     Combating racial injustice in the age of social media
  •     What does Islam teach us about racial discrimination?
  •     The impact of racism on the well-being of a community
  •     Combating racial injustice in the schools
  •     Combating racism while maintaining diverse cultural identities
