Amongst a great lineup of speakers, one of the speakers is Imam Khalid Griggs of the Muslim Alliance for Black Lives. 

Imam Khalid Abdul Fattah Griggs is the Imam of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, NC. He is leading an ICNA CSJ initiative, Muslim Alliance for Black Lives (MABL). He also served as Associate Chaplain for Muslim Life at Wake Forest University; Vice President of Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA); and member of Central Shura of ICNA. He was the first Board Chairman of ICNA Council for Social Justice. He is a founding member of Muslims for Social Justice (NC), a member of the Movement to End Racism and Islamophobia, a Board member of Interfaith Winston-Salem, and a Trustee of Parliament of the World’s Religions.

Imam Khalid is a human rights and prison reform activist, national lecturer, freelance writer and author of Come Let Us Change This World: A Brief History of the Islamic Party in North America. He is the former editor of ICNA’s Message Magazine, community access television Board Chairman, producer, and host, and Co-convener of Black Leadership Roundtable of Winston-Salem Forsyth County.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women: What is MMIW?

A red hand over the mouth has become the symbol of a movement that aims to stand up for missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW for short). Nationwide, murder is the third leading cause of death for Native women according to the Urban Indian Health Institute. About 4 in 5 Native women have experienced violence, Native women are twice as likely than white women to experience violence. Native women also face a murder rate that is 10 times the national average, and the murder rate for Native women is 3 times that of white women.
