| |  | Declare India a Country of Particular Concern | FBI Informants Committed Around 22,800 Crimes in Four Years | From The Blood of the Ummah | | | |  | | The State Department Failed us, ICNA CSJ Supporter | Assalamu Alaikum First name, Several weeks ago, we sent out a request asking all of you to sign a letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, asking him to declare India a country of particular concern with regards to International Religious Freedoms as recommended by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) earlier this year. The list has been released, and India has not made the cut. India’s ruling BJP party has made its Hindu Nationalist agenda (Hindutva) clear, and Muslims in India are living in danger of their lives. We, alongside the Indian American Muslim Council and other partner organizations, are disappointed at the State Department’s failure to recognize India’s violence against its non-Hindu citizens. The systematic disintegration of India’s non-Hindu residents sets a dangerous precedent for the way right-wing populism interacts with religious freedom. Nations that were once economically thriving and militarily potent Muslim majority lands like Iraq, Libya, and Syria, have seemingly been reduced to either failed states or dependent wards of colonizing forces. India has the largest Muslim population, approximately 175 million, of any non-Muslim majority country in the world. Of the informants used, the FBI authorized informants to commit around 22,800 crimes in just four years. High-earning informants included an airline employee who received more than $600,000 in less than four-years, and a parcel employee who received $1 million in five years. There are many reports that claim that there is little to no oversight in the crime and money allocated to these informants. | | | | | | | |  | | Biden’s Infrastructure Bill Attempts to Solve Racial Inequalities | In early November, President Biden signed a $1 trillion bill to repair and modernize the nation’s infrastructure. Termed the Build Back Better act, this bill is a part of Biden’s revival effort, spoke about extensively in campaign efforts. The money will be allocated to states to increase the nature of infrastructure around the nation. Prioritizations include improving access to broadband internet, replacing hazardous lead drinking pipes, increasing electric vehicle manufacturers, and more. There is further allocation for rebuilding bridges, roads, freight and passenger rail systems, and cleaning environmental pollution.
